I bought these hiking boots for the 2007 hiking season, I asked a shoe department sales person who seemed to be very good at his job, (very knowledgeable) if cost was not an issue what boot would you recommend for long distance hiking? Unfortunately for me and my bank account he pointed out this pair of Danners, now being sold under the name (La cross). So at a price of $160.00 I started the break in process of this type of boot OUCH!! After 75 miles these boots had left permanent scars on both ankles countless blood stains on all my hiking socks. Now at least I had a broke in pair of seemingly comfortable hiking boots for hopefully two hiking seasons WRONG! At 100 miles, high in the snow coved Cascades in the Mt. Jefferson area 2007. I Began to notice all the stitching on both boots coming apart, by mile 200 these boots were ready to give up the ghost. Readers I must tell you even the interior of these boots came apart. The break down on the heels you can see in the pix look nothing like any other pair of worn out hiking boots or shoes I have. So no I have never had polio nor do I wear any type of corrective braces on my legs, Although one may assume this by looking at these boots. By mile 300 these boots had broke down so badly that they had became more painful to wear than during the break in time. This was hard for me to believe but was something I had to accept along with the near complete loss of $160.00. My conclusion on the Danner hiker I bought (Never Again) I will be doing a review on the Merrell hiker for 2008 and other high & low end hiking gear.
